“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its passion as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame.” Song of Solomon 8:6
We wait our entire young adult lives for that “movie love feeling”, and then we stop waiting. We consider settling just so that we won’t feel lonely. We become cynical and we start believing the world as people never fail to remind us “it’s just a movie”. We lose hope, and we no longer believe in a love that moves mountains, that stands storms, that makes your heart race and your fingers and toes tingle, and no, NOT tingling because you’re sleeping together. Tingling because when your eyes lock you feel like you are the only two in the world. Nothing remains, not sound, not animals, not people nor places. Just the two of you together with this light that circles around you both. Pulling you in close and holding you together.
It is depressing to lose hope in something so beautiful.
But God, God has been telling me about this kind of love. A love better than movie love. Love that…”flashes like fire”, where passion would endure as death does and commitment never waiver. I might still be waiting, but my hope is no longer broken, nor is it wishful thinking. It is the belief that I will find this kind of love. The kind that can blind, the kind that can withstand any storm…because of the source of it’s Light, coming from my loving God. Whose plan for me is perfect.
